For kids in Northern Michigan and the Eastern Upper Peninsula, we offer free shows every year! We work with local schools to bus in kids for these fun and educational shows.

Tartan Terrors: Celtic Christmas

The Boy Who Grew Flowers

10am & 1pm, Thursday, April 9, 2026

A stunning visual performance that incorporates music and dance, and is suitable for students in Grades K-5.

The Boy Who Grew Flowers, based on the picture book by Jennifer Wojtowicz, written and adapted by Mara McEwin and choreographed by Emily Bunning, is the story of a young boy, Rink Bowagon, who lives on top of Lonesome Mountain with his unusual family of rattlesnake tamers and shape-shifters. The townspeople agree that Rink’s family is quite strange, but they are unaware of Rink’s spectacular gifts. Whenever the moon is full, Rink sprouts beautiful flowers from his head. When a new girl, Angelina, moves to town, Rink discovers friendship, acceptance, and the joy of truly belonging.

Missoula Children’s Theatre: “Sleeping Beauty”

April 27 – May 2, 2026

A young princess is put under the spell of a jealous old woman – a spell that puts her to sleep for five hundred years! Join the Missoula Children’s Theatre and over 50 local students in an original musical adaptation of SLEEPING BEAUTY.

Rehearsals take place after school, Monday-Friday, culminating in two public performances in the Opera House on Saturday (May 2). This one-hour play incorporates song, dance, and original costumes and sets.

About 50-60 students will be cast by the Missoula Children’s Theatre directors. A maximum of 64 children, K-12 may be registered in advance (60 on stage and four assistant directors). Of the total of 64, there is a maximum of 16 kids up to age 7; of 44 kids ages 8-18; and of 4 assistant directors, typically ages 12-18. There is no cost to participate.

Registration will open April 6, 2026.


The Singing Zoologist

10am & 1pm, Thursday, May 21, 2026

An engaging musical and multimedia performance that is suitable for students in Grades K-4.

Get ready to sing, move, and learn with The Singing Zoologist, Lucas Miller. Animals Rock is a high-energy, multimedia program that celebrates the amazing world of animals through music, storytelling, and science. From counting the spots on an ocelot to learning how monarch butterflies grow and migrate, students explore animal adaptations, behaviors, and defenses. Audience favorite Fifi the Ferocious brings laughs and learning with a hilarious lesson on how animals protect themselves.
