The Cheboygan Area Arts Council is dedicated to the growth and promotion of the Arts in our northern Michigan community. In accordance with these goals the Arts Council offers three scholarships: the Moloney scholarship for students (4th – 11th grades) planning to enroll in an extended arts-related activity, such as a summer camp; and the Caulkins and Hubbel scholarships, which are awarded to graduating high school seniors planning advanced studies in an arts-related field. Please read below for more details and links to the application forms. Applications for 2024 will open on December 1, 2023 and be due on April 15, 2024.
THE ROBERT L. MOLONEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND
In 1988 a bequest was given the Cheboygan Area Arts Council from the Estate of Robert L. Moloney, to be used to provide extended studies in arts-related activities for Cheboygan County students (including home-schooled students and students enrolled at Mackinaw City and Onaway schools).
Mr. Moloney, whose home was Metamora, Michigan, was a frequent visitor to this area and took great interest in the renovations of The Opera House, contributing generously during his lifetime to both the Building Fund and the Arts Council. As an advocate of the Arts, Mr. Moloney regarded the Arts Council as a resource for arts-in-education for the youth within the Cheboygan community and took steps to make provisions in his estate by which young people, grades Four through Eleven, would have opportunities to attend summer camp programs, specializing in music and the arts. Scholarships have been awarded in the amount of between $100 – $500.
Some of the camps we have sponsored in the past include Interlochen Center for the Arts, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Wolverine Band Camp, Western Michigan University School of Music, Northern Michigan University Summer Music Camp, University of Michigan School of Music, and Central Michigan University Music Camp, Young Americans and others.
