Captivating audiences and critics alike, the “brilliant” (The Times, UK) and “truly exhilarating” (The WholeNote, Canada) Cheng² Duo (pronounced Cheng Squared Duo) distinguishes itself with its uncompromising musical integrity, undeniable chemistry, and unparalleled communication with its listeners. The Chinese-Canadian brother-and-sister duo is formed by 22-year-old cellist Bryan Cheng, first cellist to win Grand Prize at the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal Competition (2019) and playing the Canada Council for the Arts’ prized ca. 1696 ‘Bonjour’ Stradivari; and pianist Silvie Cheng, recipient of the Roy M. Rubinstein Award for exceptional promise in piano performance.
Returning to the Opera House, the duo’s program will include their own arrangement of the symphony Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky.
Kodak Quartet

One of the most exciting young ensembles today, the award-winning Kodak Quartet plays with the energy of a rock band and the old-school passion of great 20th century string playing.
Praised for their “electrifying eye contact and rhythmic flexibility” (Sean MacLean, KING FM), the Kodak Quartet has established itself as a leading force in both contemporary and classical chamber music. Formed in Rochester, New York, and now based in New York City, this award-winning ensemble boasts members hailing from the United States, Canada, France, and South Africa.

Founded in 2009, the GRAMMY® Award-winning Akropolis Reed Quintet performs with “sheer musical imagination” (Gramophone), renowned as “a sonically daring ensemble who specializes in performing new works with charisma and integrity” (BBC Music Magazine). Composed of the same five members since its founding, these five reed players and entrepreneurs are pioneers and champions of a new genre of classical music—the reed quintet.
Wrapping up Chamberfest this year, Akropolis’ program celebrates our nation’s 250th anniversary by featuring great American composers such as Gershwin and Bernstein.
